SolidShops enables users to create a hosted online shop. The application is intended for website designers who create ecommerce websites for clients. The user can set up a shop and SolidShops handles hosting, security and backups. The application boasts a simple, user friendly system that sticks to the necessary basics. Users can track and ship orders, easily add products and upload images for them and completely customize the look of their online shop. SolidShops offers all the features an ecommerce website could need, from product management and order tracking to security. Users can also add accounts and set permissions for staff members. SolidShops provides Twitter connectivity so the user can easily market their offerings through their social network.

SolidShops was created to help web designs build appealing, effective online storefronts for their clients. The application handles all the basic necessities, allowing the designer to do what they do best: design. The SolidShops team currently includes back end developer Dries and front end developer Joris.

What makes SolidShops so appealing to some users is the way it caters to the web designer. Through SolidShops, web designers can set up attractive, functional online stores that come with everything their clients need without hiring a developer or other professional to handle aspects beyond design.

SolidShops welcomes visitors with a dark blue and white color scheme, accented by hints of lime green. The sleek, silver SolidShops logo compliments the dark color scheme perfectly. The site is professionally designed and contains almost no clutter. The store administrator area is very user friendly, with convenient tabs that enable the user to quickly jump from products to plugins, design, orders and settings.

A new user can sign up for a SolidShops account by clicking on the lime green “See Plans” button or the white “Pricing and Sign Up” link in the upper, right hand corner of the homepage. The user is asked to select their desired membership plan before continuing. Once this is done, the user is asked to enter a desired store name, SolidShops URL, email address, first and last name and country location. A small box at the bottom of the form must also be checked to confirm he user’s agreement with the SolidShops privacy policy and terms of use.

SolidShops provides its user with four membership options to choose from. The first is the Basic membership which costs just under $30 per month and includes up to 100 products, two custom pages, one image per product, 100 MBs of storage space and two staff log ins. The Standard membership costs around $60 per month and upgrades to include up to 500 products, 10 custom pages, three images per product, 500 MBs of storage space and three staff logins. The Plus membership costs just under $100 per month and includes up to 2,000 products, 100 custom pages, five images per page, 1,000 MBs of storage space and 10 staff logins. The most expensive plan is the Solid membership which costs around $300 per month and includes up to 10,000 products, 1,000 custom pages, 50 images per product, 2 GBs of storage space and up to 50 staff log in accounts.

SolidShops is a helpful tool for web designers who want to build functional ecommerce sites for their clients. SolidShops handles all the hosting and security aspects of the website while the user can provide the design and content.
